"As young people, you have to take a risk in life. You have to prepare for tomorrow today. The future is in your hands. In the Synod, the entire Church wants to listen to young people: to what they are thinking, to what they want, to what they criticize and to what they are sorry for. Everything. The Church needs lots more springtime, and springtime is the season of the young.” Pope Francis 8/4/17, Prayer Vigil in Preparation of World Youth Day)

Bapa Suci menyeru para belia untuk berani mengorak langkah dalam kehidupan.

“Like the young woman of Nazareth, you can improve the world and leave an imprint that makes a mark on history, your history and that of many others. The Church and society need you. With your plans and with your courage, with your dreams and ideals, walls of stagnation fall and roads open up that lead us to a better, fairer, less cruel and more humane world.” Pope Francis (March 21 2017, video message for the next WYD)

Mesej Untuk Tahun Untuk Belia Dari Uskup Agung Julian Leow

Dear Young People of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur,

What is the "Tahun Untuk Belia" all about?

The "Tahun Untuk Belia" is a time for us to experience a renewal of faith and rediscovery of our purpose in this world. Why am I here on earth? What is the purpose of my life?

The points of reflection proposed in celebration of the YEAR FOR YOUTH is not just for us to plan wonderful activities or events! It is not a checklist we need to go through. It is an invitation to reflect on our lives; have we taken all these into consideration in our everyday lives? It is an introspection, an invitation to change and make improvements on our journey as missionary disciples.

I invite you to reflect upon these 8 points, most especially in the context of your parish community, BEC and most importantly in your relationships with the people most important in your life. How am I reaching out to my family? To my neighbours? To the elderly of the community? What can I learn from them and perhaps make a difference to their lives?

The Church, our Mother is here for you, young people, as a source of guidance, to accompany you on your journey. It is our hope, that through this 'Tahun Untuk Belia', the local church will journey more consciously with you; the community and the BECs will journey with you, considering your realities, your struggles, your dreams - Journeying with you in your discernment, to realise your vocation to love and be loved!

Our Blessed Virgin Mary is an extraordinary example for you. In (Luke 1:30), the Angel Gabriel says to her, "Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found favour with God". She embraced God's favour in her "YES". Each young person can discover in Mary's life the way to listen, the courage that faith generates, the depths of discernment and dedication to service (Pope Francis's message for 33rd World Youth Day). Mary discovered her true self when she trusted in God and said "Yes". Do you want to discover your true self? Are you ready to discover your true self?

Remember also, you are not alone! We are here! ASAYOKL, (Archdiocesan Youth Office), our Priests and I, stand by and with you dear Youth of the Archdiocese. May our Mother Mary be our role model as we .... "ponder these things in our heart" (Luke 2:19)

Your companion,

Most Reverend Julian Leow Beng Kim, D.D.

Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur
